Rotary Screw Compressors

 

General Information

 

They are positive displacement compressors and basically with two meshing helical screws on rotor shafts turning over each other, to compress the gas. Rotors have infinitive type screws. One of rotors is male and the other is female. The male rotor turns the female rotor and pushes the air forward and compresses in the end. The compressed air gets heat.  The oil and air mix is separated and they move to the radiator. The hot oil and air are cooled in the radiator. The oil goes back to system and the hot compressed air is used for many purposes.

Oil free screw compressor:
In this type compressor, timing gears ensure that the male and female rotors maintain precise alignment. Oil-free compressed air is utilized in food, electronics, automotive, glass, textile, chemistry, pharmaceuticals and paper industries. Air produced by ordinary screw air compressors needs to be filtered to remove oil for some uses. Costs and maintenance risks thereof are also eliminated.

Oil-flooded screw compressor:
Lubricating oil bridges the space between the rotors, both providing a hydraulic seal and transferring mechanical energy between the driving and driven rotor. Gas enters at the suction side and moves through the threads as the screws rotate. The meshing rotors force the gas through the compressor, and the gas exits at the end of the screws.

The effectiveness of this mechanism is dependent on precisely fitting clearances between the helical rotors, and between the rotors and the chamber for sealing of the compression cavities.
